India’s energy sector will play an important role in infrastructure development: Gautam Adani

Gautam Adani, industrialist and founder chairman of the Adani Group, emphasized on Wednesday that India’s cumulative infrastructure spending is set to exceed $2.5 trillion by 2031. Speaking at a CRISIL event themed ‘Infrastructure: the catalyst for India’s future’, Adani highlighted India’s potential to create multiple trillion-dollar market opportunities.

Adani projected India to achieve the milestone of becoming a $10 trillion economy by the fiscal year 2031-32. He underscored the pivotal role of the energy sector in India’s infrastructure growth, noting that approximately a quarter of the total infrastructure expenditure in the coming years will be directed towards energy and energy transition initiatives.

“The cumulative infrastructure spending will exceed $2.5 trillion, with around 25% earmarked for energy and energy transition,” Adani stated.

He emphasized the significance of green electrons in driving India’s economic advancement, defining them as electricity generated from non-emitting sources like wind and solar power, distributed through grids, and stored in batteries for future use. Adani committed to producing the world’s most cost-effective green electrons to support various sectors, asserting that the market for green electrons has limitless growth potential.

Adani drew parallels between India’s growth trajectory post-liberalization and the current phase, highlighting governance as a critical catalyst for infrastructure sector development since 2014.

“If the period from 1991 to 2014 laid the foundations and built the runway, then from 2014 to 2024 has been about the aircraft taking off. Quality governance over the past decade has been the single most important catalyst enabling this takeoff,” he remarked.
