The number of electric vehicles registered for use on roads in Türkiye has risen sharply, increasing by about 110% year on year to reach 348,908 by the end of November. The growth has been driven by the expansion of charging facilities and changing consumer choices, reports Turkiye Today.
Data compiled by the Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency from the Turkish Statistical Institute show that the total number of cars registered in traffic stood at 17,218,442 as of November.
Electric vehicle registrations have grown rapidly over the past decade, supported by the spread of charging stations and the entry of Türkiye’s domestic car brand, Togg, into the market. In 2015, only 565 electric vehicles were registered in the country. This figure rose to 165,898 by November 2024 and further increased to 348,908 by the end of last month.
As a result, electric vehicles made up 2.02% of all registered cars by the end of November, compared with 1.02% during the same period a year earlier.
Hybrid vehicle registrations have also shown steady growth. Records for hybrid cars began in 2011, when just 23 vehicles were registered. The number increased to 13,877 in 2019 and reached 222,328 by the end of 2023. In 2024, hybrid registrations stood at 391,296, and by November this year, the total number of registered hybrid cars had climbed to 652,752.
