German company EnviTec Biogas will construct its first biogas facility in the Philippines after signing an agreement with First Quezon Biogas Corporation (FQBC), reports Bioenergy Insight.
The 1.4-megawatt (MW) plant, located in Candelaria, Quezon Province, will supply electricity to the grid operated by Meralco, the country’s largest power distributor, beginning in June 2026. The project marks a significant step in EnviTec’s expansion into Southeast Asia.
“This is an important breakthrough for us in the Philippines,” said Thomas Wagner, head of EnviTec’s Southeast Asia office in Jakarta. “Our first reference plant here will showcase our capability in processing poultry manure, and we are already receiving interest in future projects.”
Construction on the plant originally began in 2018 but was halted due to changes in the investment structure. The new agreement with a reorganized group of investors has allowed the project to move forward again.
The site currently includes two fermenters with a capacity of 5,250 cubic metres each, along with a biogas engine, transformer, clamp silo, digestate lagoon, and intake hall for poultry manure. Installation of the remaining systems—such as fermenter internals, pumps, digestate treatment, and the control system—is set to begin in early 2026.
The plant will use poultry manure from 4.5 million broilers, combined with rice-straw silage, to generate electricity and produce organic fertilizer.
According to FQBC corporate secretary Albert Alquiros, the project provides a sustainable solution for managing poultry waste while generating renewable energy for local communities.
FQBC president Sammy De Jesus said discussions are already underway on potential expansion. “The plant will help us handle poultry waste responsibly while contributing to clean energy production,” he said. “We also see opportunities to increase capacity and replicate this model in other regions.”
