VA Tech Wabag Limited has secured a large order from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for two energy-efficient wastewater treatment facilities in Bengaluru, the company said in a stock exchange filing on July 20, 2026.
According to the filing, the water technology group will undertake Design, Build, Operate (DBO) contracts for a 100 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) and a 25 MLD tertiary treatment plant (TTP) at Byramangala, along with a 60 MLD STP at Bellandur. The company noted that it had earlier executed the first phase of the Bellandur facility and has now been awarded the second phase as well.
The scope of work covers design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the facilities along with biogas-based power generation, the filing said. The sewage treatment plants will be based on the Activated Sludge Process integrated with a Biological Nutrient Removal system, while the tertiary treatment plant at Byramangala will use ultrafiltration to produce high-quality treated water for distribution to surrounding water bodies. The EPC scope is scheduled for completion within 36 months, to be followed by a seven-year operations and maintenance period.
WABAG said the facilities would strengthen Bengaluru’s wastewater treatment and water infrastructure as the city grapples with challenges from rapid urbanisation. The company added that the plants would incorporate anaerobic sludge digestion with biogas-based captive power generation, which would help cut greenhouse gas emissions, lower the plants’ energy footprint and support resource recovery.
Commenting on the order wins, S. Natrajan, Vice President and Head – Sales and Marketing, India Cluster at WABAG, said the twin wins from BWSSB reinforced the company’s leadership in India’s municipal wastewater treatment sector. He added that the energy-efficient facilities, integrated with biogas-based power generation, would establish a scalable model for resource recovery and energy optimisation while strengthening Bengaluru’s sewage treatment capacity and supporting Karnataka’s water security objectives.
Under WABAG’s internal order classification, a “large” domestic order is defined as one valued between Rs 250 crore and Rs 600 crore, the filing showed. The order was awarded by a domestic entity, and the company confirmed that neither its promoter group nor group companies hold any interest in BWSSB, and that the contract does not fall within related party transactions.
