New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday inaugurated a municipal solid waste-to-compressed biogas (CBG) plant in the city, calling it a step forward in the government’s efforts to keep the capital on track with development, reports The New Indian Express.
The plant, located at Ghogha Dairy, will process 100 tonnes of garbage every day and generate about 4 tonnes of biogas. Along with the plant, an integrated CBG-CNG fuel station has also been set up. The project was launched under an agreement signed on January 4, 2022, between the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL).
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister said that a “new history” was being created in rural parts of Delhi. “The coming generations will see a cleaner, garbage-free Delhi,” she added.
Gupta also highlighted that while Delhi has thousands of cattle producing large amounts of dung daily, no biogas plant had been established earlier. She said this raised serious questions about where all the waste was going. According to her, the issue of garbage, which had tarnished the city’s image for years, has been addressed in the past seven months.
