Adani Energy Solutions gets ‘Zero-Waste-to-Landfill’ certification across all sites

Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) announced on Wednesday that all its operational sites and corporate headquarters have received the prestigious Zero-Waste-to-Landfill (ZWL) certification from Intertek, a global leader in quality assurance. The company highlighted that it has achieved a 100% diversion rate, ensuring that no waste from its facilities is sent to landfills.

In a media release, AESL explained that the ZWL certification signifies that all waste generated at its facilities is managed through methods such as reduction, reuse, recycling, or recovery, with none of it being disposed of in landfills. This approach not only conserves resources but also reduces the reliance on fresh raw materials.

AESL’s operational sites are spread across 54 locations in 16 states, including several in remote and challenging areas. The company noted that the task of achieving ZWL certification was particularly difficult due to the location of many of these sites. Despite these challenges, AESL maintained diversion rates of over 99% for three consecutive years before reaching 100% this year.

“Over the last three years, we achieved diversion rates of 99.87%, 99.88%, and 99.99%, respectively, making AESL India’s first transmission company to consistently maintain diversion rates over 99% for three years in a row. This year, AESL is the only transmission utility to achieve the milestone of 100% diversion,” the company stated.

AESL’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices began in the financial year 2021, with the company setting a target to rank among the top 10 electric utility companies globally in ESG benchmarks.

According to a government report, recent GST reforms have also helped businesses manage waste more efficiently and at lower costs. The GST on services provided by Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) was reduced from 12% to 5%, which is expected to assist municipal corporations in implementing clean energy solutions for waste management. These tax cuts are also expected to create green jobs in areas such as waste segregation, plant operations, and maintenance.

As of August 4, 2025, there are 222 CETPs operating across India, with 53 of these designed to achieve Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) standards. The reduction in taxes on CETPs is expected to encourage industries to adopt centralized waste treatment methods, leading to a cleaner environment and promoting sustainable development in industrial regions.
