Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on September 8 to inaugurate a major bio refinery project at Numaligarh.
Speaking at a press conference held at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati, the Chief Minister said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Numaligarh bio refinery, a facility that converts bamboo into 2G ethanol. The project has been completed at a cost of ₹4,200 crore. He will also attend a meeting at Numaligarh on the same day.”
Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Mangaldoi in Darrang district, where he will lay the foundation stone for several key infrastructure initiatives.
“At Mangaldoi, he will lay the foundation for Guwahati’s ring road, a new bridge over the Brahmaputra River connecting Kurua and Narengi, as well as the Darrang Medical College,” Sarma added.
After his engagements in Mangaldoi, PM Modi will return to Guwahati to take part in the opening ceremony of the centenary celebrations honoring Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The year-long celebration is being organized by the Government of Assam.
“The Prime Minister will later come to Guwahati to attend the inaugural event marking the 100th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. It is a day-long programme, and preparations are underway to welcome him,” Sarma stated.
In a related development, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also set to visit Guwahati on August 29. During his visit, he will inaugurate the newly constructed Raj Bhawan.
“We have built a new Raj Bhawan in Guwahati, which the Union Home Minister will inaugurate on the morning of August 29. The BJP-led NDA recently secured a sweeping victory in the Assam Panchayat elections,” the Chief Minister said.
Later that day, Shah will address a convention of all newly elected NDA Panchayat representatives. He is also scheduled to attend a commemorative event celebrating the birth centenary of Golap Borbora, Assam’s first non-Congress Chief Minister.
