Biomass Renewable Energy Inc. to present plans for new power plant and microgrid in Oroville

Oroville: At Tuesday’s regular meeting, the Oroville City Council will hear a presentation from Biomass Renewable Energy Inc., which is proposing to build a new renewable energy facility and eventually develop a local microgrid to support housing and businesses, reports Enterprise-Record.

According to a staff report, the company plans to begin construction in 2026 on a power plant that would convert organic waste from the surrounding region into renewable energy. Initially, the electricity generated would be fed into the existing power grid, with future plans to expand microgrid infrastructure throughout the city.

The city has been in discussions with the company and believes the project could bring meaningful benefits to the community. Staff have recommended that the City Council encourage continued collaboration with the company.

As outlined in the presentation, the proposed development is expected to reduce energy costs, improve reliability during outages and climate-related events, create local jobs, and increase Oroville’s appeal for businesses, particularly those that consume large amounts of energy.

Further details will be discussed at the council meeting, along with other city business.
