Telangana secures Rs 1,500 crore investment for biogas plants across state

Hyderabad: Telangana has attracted a fresh investment of Rs. 1,500 crore for the development of compressed biogas (CBG) plants, with South Africa-based Biovest Holdings partnering with Hyderabad’s Spantech Engineers (India) and EcoMax Energy (India). The initial plan includes the establishment of 20 biogas plants in multiple districts across the state, reported The Times of India.

As part of the collaboration, the three companies signed a bilateral technology transfer agreement. Under this agreement, Spantech will provide its biogas purification system, BioGenie, to Biovest. In return, Biovest will license its advanced anaerobic digestion technology, Herba, to Spantech for local manufacturing in Hyderabad. The Herba system is noted for its compact, containerised design and ability to produce three times more biomethane than conventional methods.

EcoMax Energy will serve as the exclusive partner to roll out this technology through its biogas projects in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The company said this initiative will bring in major investments and generate employment opportunities for thousands of people in the region.

EcoMax also announced plans to eventually establish one CBG plant in every district of Telangana using the Herba technology. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between EcoMax and Spantech was formally signed on Wednesday, in the presence of Telangana government ministers and senior officials.
