NRL signs MoU with Oil Green Energy to secure renewable power for refinery operations

Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oil Green Energy Limited (OGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Oil India Limited, to collaborate on the development, procurement, and supply of renewable energy for the refinery, Construction World reported.

The agreement was formalised at NRL’s facilities and signed by Rupam Kumar Sarma, General Manager for Technical Services at NRL, and Rajeev Kumar Tamuli, General Manager at OGEL. The MoU covers technical cooperation and supply arrangements aimed at integrating green energy into refinery operations, and forms part of a broader plan to reduce the carbon intensity of NRL’s refined product output.

Under the agreement, both organisations will jointly identify and evaluate renewable energy project opportunities, carry out feasibility assessments, and pursue the necessary regulatory clearances to enable timely implementation. The collaboration will also extend to procurement models, power purchase arrangements, and potential investment structures to expand NRL’s share of renewable energy in its overall power mix.

NRL is expected to use the partnership to secure a reliable supply of green energy to meet its operational requirements, while OGEL will contribute its experience as a developer and supplier within India’s national energy ecosystem. The arrangement is intended to support both energy security at the refinery level and broader national decarbonisation goals.

The two parties are to prepare detailed project roadmaps and implementation timelines, with ongoing monitoring of regulatory developments and market conditions forming a part of the collaboration. The MoU is designed to serve as a framework for future contracts and coordinated action on renewable energy deployment between the two organisations.
