Montana Renewables supplies first shipment of sustainable aviation fuel for Detroit Metropolitan Airport

For the first time, Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) will utilize Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) thanks to Montana Renewables, LLC (MRL), the largest SAF producer in North America as of 2024. MRL has delivered an initial shipment of 7,000 gallons of SAF to the Buckeye Pipeline facility in Dearborn, Michigan. From there, the fuel will be transported to the airport via pipeline for use by Delta Air Lines.

“Providing SAF to DTW marks a significant milestone in the decarbonization of air travel,” stated Bruce Fleming, CEO of MRL. “Not only does this enable SAF for Detroit flights, but we are particularly excited to pioneer camelina oil as a non-food renewable source, which offers additional cash crop potential for farmers.”

Calumet, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLMT), headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, manufactures, formulates, and markets a diverse range of specialty branded products and renewable fuels to various consumer and industrial markets across North America.

Montana Renewables, LLC is a leading renewable fuel company based in Great Falls, Montana. MRL produces Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Renewable Diesel, Renewable Hydrogen, and Renewable Naphtha. As the largest SAF producer in North America, MRL is committed to meeting the growing demand for sustainable fuels and supporting a greener future. The company creates high-paying jobs and contributes to the local economy while relying on sustainable, renewable, low-carbon feedstocks and agricultural byproducts from Pacific Northwest farms and ranches, including tallow, distillers corn oil, canola oil, used cooking oil, and camelina oil. These feedstocks are transformed into renewable transportation fuels that produce lower emissions compared to conventional fossil fuels. MRL operates as an unrestricted subsidiary of Calumet, Inc.
