Indonesia welcomed India’s invitation to join the Global Biofuels Alliance

At the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited India from January 23-26, 2025. During his stay, he attended the 76th Republic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest, accompanied by a high-level delegation consisting of Indonesian government ministers, senior officials, and business representatives.

The two leaders highlighted the significant role biofuels play in the decarbonization of transportation and related sectors. They emphasized the need for international cooperation to enhance trade, research and development, set standards, and contribute to the global biofuels ecosystem. Indonesia warmly welcomed India’s invitation to join the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA).

The GBA, an initiative led by India during its G20 presidency, is a multi-stakeholder alliance that brings together governments, international organizations, and industries. Its goal is to unite the largest biofuel consumers and producers to advance the development and deployment of biofuels. The alliance seeks to position biofuels as a key element in the global energy transition and contribute to job creation and economic growth. The GBA is gaining momentum, inspiring leaders and entrepreneurs worldwide.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to achieving renewable energy goals and praised the ongoing efforts toward energy transition in their respective countries.

They also discussed energy security, emphasizing the importance of providing affordable and reliable energy to their citizens. In this regard, India shared details about its growing refinery capacity and the potential to supply refined petroleum products to Indonesia.

To date, 25 countries and 12 international organizations have joined the GBA. The participating countries include:

Thirteen non-G20 countries:

Sri Lanka
Tanzania
Uganda
Twelve international organizations:
Asian Development Bank, World Economic Forum, World LPG Organization, UN Energy for All, UNIDO, Biofutures Platform, International Civil Aviation Organization, International Energy Agency, International Energy Forum, International Renewable Energy Agency, World Biogas Association, and the World Bank.

Recently, Jamaica also signed an agreement to join the GBA.
