Indonesia moves toward full implementation of the B40 biodiesel program

Indonesia expects to fully implement its B40 biodiesel program soon, following initial delays earlier this year, according to Energy Ministry official Eniya Listiani Dewi, reports Biofuels International.

As of now, the country has distributed approximately 1.2 million kilolitres of palm oil-based biodiesel, Reuters reported. Originally set for a January 1 launch, the mandatory B40 mix—which contains 40% palm oil fuel—faced regulatory hurdles, prompting a transition period until the end of February.

The previous biodiesel blend contained 35% palm oil. Eniya confirmed that there will be no further extensions to the transition period.

The implementation of Indonesia’s higher biodiesel mandate is being closely monitored by palm oil market participants, as it could significantly impact Indonesia’s palm oil exports. As the world’s largest palm oil producer, Indonesia has allocated 15.6 million kilolitres of biodiesel for distribution in 2025, an increase from approximately 13 million kilolitres last year.
