On February 14, H.E. Governor Mr. Ronaldo Caiado of the State of Goias, Brazil, held a significant meeting with Bhagirath Choudhary, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi. This meeting aimed to enhance the bilateral relationship between India and Brazil, with a special focus on expanding cooperation in key agricultural sectors such as sugarcane, ethanol, pulses, research and development (R&D), innovation, and digital agriculture.
Minister Bhagirath Choudhary emphasized the strong and multifaceted relationship between India and Brazil, both bilaterally and at multilateral forums. He noted that Governor Caiado’s visit would pave the way for deepened collaboration, particularly in boosting agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and improving the well-being of citizens in both countries.
Governor Mr. Ronaldo Caiado highlighted the shared agricultural strengths of India and the State of Goias, noting that both regions benefit from a favorable climate and rich farming landscapes. This commonality offers vast opportunities for collaboration through knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and capacity-building efforts. By working together, India and Brazil can elevate agricultural practices and promote sustainable development in these sectors.
Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary for International Cooperation, briefed the delegation on several key government initiatives aimed at transforming Indian agriculture, including crop insurance, agricultural credit schemes, and the development of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in the sector.
The Brazilian delegation included senior officials from the State of Goias, as well as leading representatives from major industries. On the Indian side, the meeting was attended by top officials, including the Joint Secretary (IC), Advisor for Digital Agriculture, Advisor for Trade, ADG (IR), ADG (Food and Fodder Crops), ADG (Commercial Crops), and other senior representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture.
This meeting marks an important step towards strengthening agricultural and trade relations between India and Brazil, opening new avenues for collaboration and mutual growth.
