The European Commission has announced anti-dumping duties on biodiesel imports from China to protect the EU’s domestic industry from unfair competition, reports Energy Live News
An investigation found that Chinese biodiesel was being sold in the EU at unfairly low prices, putting European producers at risk of plant closures. In response, the Commission introduced duties ranging from 10% to 35.6%, replacing provisional tariffs set in August 2024.
The new measures aim to safeguard nearly 6,000 jobs across more than 60 biodiesel producers in 18 EU member states. The duties apply to biodiesel in its pure form and blends but exclude Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
With the EU’s biodiesel market valued at €25 billion (£21bn) annually, officials say the decision is crucial for maintaining a level playing field in the sector.
