Deendayal Port Authority and NTPC partner for green hydrogen mobility at Kandla Port

NTPC REL, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) on January 7, 2025, in Gandhidham, Gujarat, according to the press release.

The MoU aims to promote green energy technologies at Kandla Port under the DPA’s guidance, with a particular focus on the green hydrogen mobility project. The MoU was exchanged between Shri Anuj Singh, GM of NTPC RE, and Shri R. Reddy, CME of DPA, in the presence of Hon’ble Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble MLA Ms. Maltiben Maheshwari, and senior officials from NTPC and DPA.

Under the agreement, NGEL will establish a green hydrogen fuelling station at Kandla Port, alongside 11 hydrogen-powered buses for short-haul operations. This initiative aims to replace fossil fuel buses with cleaner, greener alternatives, contributing to decarbonization and enhancing energy security.

NTPC has been successfully running a green hydrogen blending project in Surat, Gujarat, for over two years and has launched similar mobility initiatives in Leh, Ladakh, Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), and Bhubaneswar (Odisha).

Additionally, NTPC is working on developing a green hydrogen hub in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and plans to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, along with energy storage solutions.
