Airbus Canada has begun using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at its A220 facility in Mirabel. This marks a major step in making Airbus operations more environmentally friendly. The Mirabel teams will now use SAF for production, customer acceptance, and test flights. With this, all Airbus commercial aircraft assembly sites worldwide have now incorporated SAF into their daily operations, reports Fifty Sky Shades.
By 2025, Airbus plans to expand this initiative by offering SAF to customers for ferry flights at all its commercial aircraft delivery centres worldwide. At the Mirabel site alone, more than 600,000 litres of SAF, blended at 30%, are expected to be used this year. This change is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 400 metric tons.
