Mohali-based SEDL showcases innovative biomass energy solutions at RegaTec 2025 in Germany

Mohali-based SPRAY Engineering Devices Limited (SEDL) attracted global attention at RegaTec 2025 in Weimar, Germany, with its innovative biomass-based energy solutions and green chemical technologies, reported The Indian Express.

The event, held on May 20 and 21, showcased advancements in renewable energy, where SEDL highlighted its Made-in-India Mechanical Vapour Recompression (MVR) technology as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Vivek Verma, SEDL’s managing director, detailed the company’s method of converting biomass into bioenergy and green chemicals using MVR systems.

Presented under the theme “Biomass to Bioenergy & Green Chemicals,” the session emphasized moving away from traditional biomass burning—a significant contributor to air pollution in North India—toward technologies that promote second-generation ethanol production and help meet carbon reduction goals. Verma was accompanied by researchers Dr. Kaleem Ahmad and Dr. Malli, who provided further technical perspectives.

The team demonstrated how MVR-based heat recovery can be integrated into sectors such as jaggery manufacturing and water treatment, offering advantages to both rural industries and large-scale biofuel projects. The Indian-developed technology attracted considerable interest from European and international participants.

The event brought together industry experts, researchers, and policymakers focused on finding alternatives to the traditional hydrocarbon economy.
