Trade Remedies Authority to investigate HVO biodiesel imports from the USA

On 17 March 2025, the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) launched both an anti-dumping and a countervailing investigation into imports of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) biodiesel from the United States.

The investigations come after a request from UK biodiesel producers, who have raised concerns that the market has changed since a previous review in 2022. New evidence suggests that the price gap has reduced, and HVO may now be directly competing with biodiesel produced in the UK.

The aim of the investigations is to determine whether HVO imports are being sold at unfairly low prices or subsidized, and if they are causing harm to the UK industry.
