Govt striving to make Himachal Pradesh first ‘Green Energy’ state in country: CM Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Wednesday that by December 2025, the state will implement seven solar power projects with a combined capacity of 72 MW, according to an official statement.

He mentioned that the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) has started work on two projects in Una district: one at Gondpur Bulla with a 12 MW capacity and another at Lamlahri Uparli with an 11 MW capacity. Additionally, three solar projects are in progress in Solan district, including a 13 MW initiative at Saned in Nalagarh, an 8 MW project at Bara Barot, and another 13 MW project at Dabhota Majra. The tender for a 9 MW project at Dabhota One will soon be awarded, and the construction is expected to begin shortly. A 6 MW solar project at Tihra Khas in Una district is also in the tendering phase and is anticipated to be awarded this month.

The Chief Minister further emphasized the state’s dedication to expanding solar energy production, with surveys being conducted for eight more projects totaling 325 MW. Once the detailed project reports (DPRs) are finalized, construction on these solar projects will begin.

CM Sukhu also highlighted the government’s goal to make Himachal Pradesh India’s first “Green Energy” state by 2026, focusing on environmental conservation and sustainability. “Harnessing green energy not only supports environmental protection but also lowers carbon emissions. Renewable energy is limitless, ensuring energy for future generations and playing a vital role in combating climate change,” he said.

On April 15, 2024, the Chief Minister inaugurated a 32 MW solar power project at Pekhubela in Una district. This project has already produced 48 million units of electricity, generating a revenue of Rs 14 crore as of January 31, 2025. Additionally, a 5 MW solar project at Bhanjal in Una district began operations on November 30, 2024. A 10 MW solar project at Aghlaur is expected to be finished this month, according to the Chief Minister’s office.

The state government is also prioritizing green hydrogen energy, with a one MW green hydrogen project underway in Nalagarh, Solan district. This project is being developed in collaboration with Oil India Limited, with whom the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
