Assam seeks green energy investments ahead of Advantage Assam 2.0 summit

Ahead of the highly anticipated Advantage Assam 2.0 business and investment summit, the state is focusing on attracting investments in the green energy sector.

Assam’s green energy transformation has gained attention, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighting the rapid growth of investment opportunities in areas such as floating solar, bio-CNG, green hydrogen, and ATJ fuel. “With investor-friendly policies, Assam is poised for a sustainable future,” Sarma emphasized.

“We are committed to expanding our green energy initiatives in line with our target of achieving 3,000 MW of renewable energy by 2030,” the Assam CM stated.

As part of efforts to ensure the success of the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, which will host leading industrialists and investors from across India and beyond, Chief Minister Sarma visited Mumbai on February 8. During his trip, he met with JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal and invited him to the summit.

This visit marked Sarma’s second recent trip to Mumbai to encourage further participation in the summit. He and Jindal discussed potential collaborations, particularly in infrastructure and energy sectors. Sarma briefed Jindal on the government’s initiatives to foster investment, including creating various opportunities to enhance the investment ecosystem in Assam.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that Assam had approved the Assam Startup and Innovation Policy, which offers both fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to support entrepreneurs. The government’s goal is to support 5,000 startups and generate one lakh jobs in the next five years.

During the visit, Sarma also met Welspun World Chairman BK Goenka. The two discussed potential collaborations in textiles, energy, water treatment, and infrastructure. Sarma invited Goenka to the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit and reassured him that the state government is creating an environment that will benefit the Welspun World Group’s investment in Assam.

Additionally, the Chief Minister met with Ravi Ruia, Vice Chairman of Essar Group, to explore possible partnerships in manufacturing electric trucks and renewable energy projects in Assam. Sarma also invited Ruia to attend Advantage Assam 2.0.

The Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit is scheduled for February 25-26 in Guwahati. Prime Minister Modi will be the chief guest at the summit on February 25.
