HPCL reports highest-ever ethanol blending of 14.3 per cent during Q1 FY 2024-25

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has reported standalone revenue from operations of ₹1,20,859 crore for the first quarter of FY25, compared to ₹1,19,044 crore in the same period of FY24. The company’s consolidated profit after tax (PAT) for this quarter stands at ₹634 crore, a significant decrease from ₹6,766 crore during 1QFY24. The standalone PAT for this quarter is ₹356 crore, down from ₹6,204 crore in 1QFY24. The main factors contributing to the lower PAT are suppressed marketing margins on certain petroleum products and reduced refining margins.

According to the release, HPCL achieved its highest-ever ethanol blending rate of 14.3% during the quarter, blending approximately 48.12 crore liters of ethanol into motor spirit (MS), resulting in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 9.62 lakh metric tons.

The company also commissioned a first-of-its-kind solid oxide electrolyser (SOE) at HPGRDC for producing green hydrogen with 99.99% purity. This marks a significant advancement in assessing this technology for a future hydrogen economy. The SOE system operates on about 25% less energy than proton exchange membrane (PEM) and alkaline electrolysers.

HPCL’s first biomass-based compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, has produced 230.57 metric tons of CBG and initiated commercial sales during 1QFY25.

Additionally, HPCL issued eight new letters of intent (LoIs) for CBG plants with a combined capacity addition of 54 tons per day (TPD) during 1QFY25, bringing the total number of active LoIs to 115 and the overall CBG production capacity to 671.1 TPD.

During 1QFY25, 39 retail outlets commissioned CNG facilities, increasing the total number of retail outlets with CNG facilities to 1,729 as of June 30, 2024.
