Tata Power Renewables commissions 300 MW project for SECI in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), one of India’s leading renewable energy companies and a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has commissioned its 300 MW solar project for SECI in Koppal, Karnataka, marking another significant milestone in its journey of developing and executing large-scale renewable energy projects across India. TP Saurya, a wholly owned subsidiary of TPREL, is the developing company of this project, according to press release.

Upon commissioning, the project is expected to generate 810 MUs of renewable energy annually and help mitigate an estimated 103,820 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, reinforcing the transition towards a cleaner energy future.

The project will supply renewable power to the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). A key technology feature of the project is the deployment of Solar Trackers, enabling the solar modules to track the movement of the sun and optimise energy generation. The project deploys TP580HG10NB bifacial modules. The combination of advanced tracking technology and high-efficiency bifacial modules supports efficient utilisation of the project site and enhances renewable power generation.

The Koppal project also reflects TPREL’s focus on building a diverse and inclusive workforce across its renewable energy operations. Around 16 women professionals, accounting for nearly 40% of the workforce at the project site, have contributed in key roles including Site Managers and Site Engineers, supporting technical execution, engineering and team management. Their participation highlights the growing role of women in technical and leadership positions within India’s renewable energy sector.

The commissioning of the Koppal project further strengthens TPREL’s portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects and reinforces its commitment to supporting India’s transition towards a low-carbon energy future through technology-led solutions, strong execution capabilities and responsible project development.

With the addition of this project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 12 GW.

Out of this around 7.2 GW is operational, including 5.8 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity, while close to 4.9 GW is under various stages of implementation.
