Galia Green Power secures €89.3 million financing for biogas and biomethane expansion in Poland

Galia Green Power has secured PLN 376 million (€89.3 million) in financing to expand its biogas and biomethane operations in Poland. The 18 year financing has been provided by PKO Bank Polski, Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) and mBank, making the deal one of the largest financing arrangements for Poland’s biogas and biomethane sector in recent years, UkrAgroConsult reported.

The company plans to use the funds to acquire existing biogas plants, expand its current facilities and develop new biomethane production capacity. The first tranche of the financing is expected to be deployed during the current quarter.

The agreement also includes the possibility of an additional PLN 225 million (€53.3 million) in financing. If fully utilised, the total funding available could reach around €142.6 million. Additional projects may be included in the programme over time, provided they meet the specified technological and environmental requirements.

Galia Green Power said the participation of three major banks highlights the growing interest of the financial sector in Poland’s biomethane market. According to the company, the banks view biogas and biomethane projects as a means of supporting decarbonisation, improving energy security and promoting the circular economy.

The expansion of biogas and biomethane production could also increase demand for locally sourced organic feedstock and agricultural waste. The financing programme is expected to help Galia Green Power increase its biogas capacity and expand biomethane production across Poland.
