Suzlon targets 5 GW renewable energy capacity in Andhra Pradesh by 2030

AMARAVATI: Renewable energy company Suzlon Group plans to add 5 GW of renewable energy capacity in Andhra Pradesh by 2030, with the expansion expected to create about 4,000 direct and indirect jobs in the state, ANI reported.

According to a company statement, Suzlon plans to develop 1,325 MW of new wind power projects in the Rayadurg constituency of Anantapur district in partnership with clean energy companies including Tata Power and Waaree Energy. The projects are expected to involve an investment of about ₹10,000 crore in the state’s wind energy sector.

Andhra Pradesh Education, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh is scheduled to inaugurate Suzlon’s new S144 wind blades at Huliker village in Kanekallu mandal on Tuesday.

The planned projects will add to Suzlon’s existing wind energy presence in Andhra Pradesh, where it has more than 1,700 MW of installed capacity.

Anantapur is the company’s main operating and manufacturing base in the state. Suzlon entered Andhra Pradesh in 2004 and has invested about ₹12,000 crore there since then.

The company operates a rotor blade manufacturing plant at Ippuru in Kuderu mandal. The facility accounts for about 40% of Suzlon’s total blade production capacity and can produce blades equivalent to 1,260 MW of capacity annually.

The plant supplies blade components for large wind power projects, including projects being developed with Tata Power. Suzlon’s existing projects and facilities employ about 2,200 people across Andhra Pradesh.

Suzlon and the state government are also running a green skills training programme to develop local technical workers for the renewable energy sector.

Under the programme, Wind Energy Learning Centres in Vijayawada and Uravakonda are training about 12,000 young professionals. Women account for nearly 25% of those enrolled in the programme, the company said, according to ANI.
