Bengaluru: A startup in Bengaluru is gaining attention for converting wastewater into reusable clean water and biogas, offering a sustainable solution as fuel costs and environmental concerns continue to rise, News Karnataka reported.
According to the report, the company is using specialised treatment methods to process sewage and industrial wastewater, turning it into useful resources instead of treating it as waste. The system converts organic matter present in wastewater into biogas, which can be used as an alternative fuel, while the treated water is suitable for reuse in industrial operations, landscaping and other non-drinking purposes.
The initiative reflects a shift from traditional wastewater management practices, which typically focus only on treatment and discharge. In contrast, the Bengaluru-based firm is adopting a circular approach that recovers both energy and water, contributing to resource conservation and efficiency, the report noted.
Experts cited in the report said such technologies could help reduce dependence on conventional fuels and support industries in managing water shortages more effectively. With urban areas facing increasing pressure on water resources, decentralised wastewater treatment systems are becoming more relevant, particularly in rapidly expanding cities like Bengaluru.
Environmental observers also highlighted that wastewater-to-energy solutions can play a role in lowering pollution levels, reducing carbon emissions and strengthening sustainable urban infrastructure.
The development adds to Bengaluru’s growing profile as a hub for sustainability-focused innovation, with startups increasingly working on clean energy, waste management and climate-related technologies. Industry observers believe such solutions could see wider adoption as cities look for cost-effective and environmentally friendly ways to manage resources.
