Salish Elements and Xaxli’p agree to collaborate on development of 25MW green hydrogen production project in Canada

Salish Elements and Xaxli’p have agreed to collaborate on developing a 25MW green hydrogen production project in Canada.

Under an Agreement in Principle (AiP), the two parties will explore the construction and operation of the facility and have established terms for a more detailed working agreement between the Xaxli’p Development Corporation (XDC) and Salish Elements.

The AiP was formally announced at the Hy-fcell conference in the presence of Chairman Reuben George of Tsleil-Waututh Nation, Chief (Kukpi7) Darrell Bob of Xaxli’p, and Josie Osborne, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Low Carbon Innovation.

The Xaxli’p community in British Columbia encompasses 11 communities that form the St’at’imc Nation. Currently, the two companies are negotiating a land lease and other partnership details for constructing the facility.

Salish Elements, an indigenous-owned company focused on green hydrogen supply and infrastructure development, aims to utilize renewable electricity across its operations.

Osborne stated that partnerships like this will bring economic benefits to the region, further solidifying the Province’s position as a leader in the hydrogen economy.

She added, “The partnership between Salish Elements and Xaxli’p Nation on this proposed green hydrogen project would help create jobs and contribute to building a clean transportation sector.”

Chairman George remarked, “We recognize Xaxli’p’s stewardship, as they have safeguarded their lands and waters for millennia. This critical technology is needed now to develop alternative energy sources.”

Earlier today, it was confirmed that clean hydrogen investment tax credits proposed in Canada’s budget have been enacted into law.
