Goa: Sanjivani Cooperative focuses on Bio-CNG to drive green energy transition

Goa: The Sanjivani Cooperative Sugar Factory has taken a major step in clean energy production by scaling up its Bio-CNG project, positioning agricultural waste as a key resource for sustainable fuel generation, Indian Cooperative reported.

The project, led by Vivek Kolhe, is now fully operational and produces around 12 tonnes of Bio-CNG ежедневно using sugarcane waste. This initiative highlights a growing shift towards converting farm residue into clean energy while reducing dependence on conventional fuels.

Officials said the Bio-CNG plant not only supports the country’s push for alternative energy but also creates a new revenue stream for farmers. By supplying sugarcane waste, farmers are emerging as contributors to energy production, strengthening the link between agriculture and the energy sector.

The project is among the early large-scale efforts in the cooperative sector to generate Bio-CNG from agri-waste, demonstrating how rural industries can play a direct role in the clean energy transition.

In addition to environmental benefits, the initiative is expected to support local economies by creating jobs and promoting efficient use of agricultural by-products.

As India looks to expand its renewable energy base, the Sanjivani model underlines the potential of Bio-CNG as a reliable and sustainable fuel, driven by cooperative institutions and farmer participation.
