Airco Process to supply gas treatment systems for Finland’s largest planned biogas plant

Airco Process Technology has been chosen by bioconstruct GmbH to provide the full gas treatment system for what is set to become Finland’s largest biogas facility, in a development seen as a significant boost for the country’s renewable energy sector, reports Bioenergy Insight.

Working as a main subcontractor to bioconstruct, Airco Process will supply a complete, ready-to-operate solution. This includes a biogas upgrading unit, two BioLNG production units, and a system to clean and liquefy carbon dioxide. Together, these installations will allow biogas and its by-products to be processed and used efficiently.

The new plant is being developed by Nivalan Biokaasu Oy in partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and is widely viewed as a landmark project for Finland’s bioenergy industry. Once in operation, the facility is expected to handle about 600,000 tonnes of raw materials each year.

Daily output from the plant is projected at around 36 tonnes of bioLNG and about 77 tonnes of biogenic carbon dioxide. Both outputs will be treated and liquefied at the site, making them suitable for use in industry, transport and other applications.

Airco Process said it was pleased to be given a key role in the project, stating that the agreement shows trust in the company’s technology and engineering capabilities.

The company added that the project marks an important step in strengthening renewable energy development in the region and supports the broader move towards cleaner and more sustainable energy supplies.
