Chandrapur, Maharashtra: A massive fire erupted late Wednesday evening at an ethanol plant near Udapur village on the Bramhapuri–Borgaon stretch, sending shockwaves through the area. The blaze began in the facility’s distillation unit, according to the media reports.
According to Navbharat, no casualties have been reported, though several nearby homes sustained damage. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Fire brigade teams from Bramhapuri, Nagbhid, Sindewahi, Mul, and two stations in Gadchiroli rushed to the site, supported by additional units from surrounding regions. Chandrapur Municipal Corporation also deployed two specialized foam-based fire tenders to help douse the flames.
The plant had been operating normally until around 5 p.m., when a powerful explosion rocked the premises. Witnesses said the blast was so strong that it was heard across three nearby villages, triggering widespread panic.
Bramhapuri police reached the spot soon after the incident, followed by local officials, including Tehsildar Satish Masal, and representatives from multiple organizations working to bring the situation under control.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire and evaluate the damage. No official estimate of the financial loss has been released so far.
