Delhi CM Rekha Gupta flags off 40 new electric buses at Azadpur

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday flagged off 40 new electric buses and inaugurated a modern bus terminal at Azadpur. The event was attended by Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal, Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and Adarsh Nagar BJP MLA Rajkumar Bhatia.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the occasion as a significant achievement for the government. “I want to congratulate you all… Today is an achievement of this government. This change has happened because of the power of your vote,” she said.

She also criticised the opposition, accusing the previous administration of running a “government of advertisement” that failed to deliver development in the capital. In contrast, she said, the present government focuses on progress rather than publicity. “For years, Delhi was entangled in issues… There was nobody to listen… It was a government of advertisements only. Our government executes major projects for the capital city daily… How many advertisements did we put up? We don’t even put hoardings. We simply deliver new initiatives to the people of Delhi,” she said.

Gupta highlighted the government’s rapid expansion of bus services, noting that 1,400 buses have been added in just eight months, whereas the previous government introduced only 2,000 buses over 11 years. “Today, we are giving 40 electric buses to Delhi and a bus terminal… Just two days ago, we delivered 50 buses… The Delhi government has issued 1,400 buses within eight months. The previous government brought only 2,000 buses in 11 years,” she added.

She further criticised the earlier administration for neglecting issues such as garbage management and poor road infrastructure. “The previous government neither took care of the mountains of garbage nor the poor road infrastructure… Since you brought the Bharatiya Janata Party to power in Delhi, we are working in favour of Delhi 24×7,” she said.

Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh told ANI that the newly inaugurated bus terminal is designed to improve the passenger experience. “We have inaugurated 40 electric buses. This modern bus terminal is made for the passengers… From this terminal, 116 buses will operate to 21 locations. The terminal is equipped with seating arrangements, food facilities and washrooms,” he said.
