Peaks Renewables and Biogas Development have announced a new partnership aimed at boosting renewable gas production at Biogas Development’s Hidden Hollow Energy Landfill Gas Project in Boise, Idaho. Peaks Renewables is providing a preferred equity investment to support continued expansion and optimization of the facility, which captures landfill gas and converts it into renewable natural gas (RNG) for use in Idaho and beyond.
The investment strengthens Peaks Renewables’ growing national portfolio of renewable gas initiatives and underscores the company’s commitment to advancing dependable, renewable energy solutions through strategic collaborations. The Hidden Hollow Energy project aims to expand distributed energy generation, cut emissions, stimulate economic growth, and improve energy reliability and resilience for Ada County and surrounding areas.
“The Boise Landfill Gas Project is a model for how public and private partnerships can drive meaningful progress toward a cleaner energy future,” said Lizzy Reinholt, President of Peaks Renewables. “This investment builds on our expanding renewable gas portfolio and highlights our commitment to turning wasted resources into innovative energy solutions that support economic development and strengthen reliability. We’re proud to partner with Biogas Development on a project that transforms local waste into renewable energy that powers communities and enhances resiliency.”
“Biogas Development has been committed to advancing landfill gas-to-energy solutions for nearly a decade,” added Ahren Tryon, CEO of Biogas Development. “Our Boise landfill project is Idaho’s first of its kind. Working with Peaks gives us the opportunity to continue developing this facility and expanding the role of landfill gas in Idaho’s energy landscape, while demonstrating how strategic collaboration and long-term investment can drive innovation, reliability, and energy independence.”
The Hidden Hollow Energy Landfill Gas Project has been producing renewable natural gas since early 2025. The facility captures methane from decomposing waste at the Ada County Landfill and upgrades it to pipeline-quality RNG, which is then injected into the regional natural gas system.
The Boise site stands as a leading example of the circular economy in action—converting waste into a valuable resource, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting local energy independence.
