Mitsubishi Corporation enters global biogas market with strategic investment in KIS Group

KIS Group has announced that Mitsubishi Corporation has taken a minority equity stake in its Indonesia operations, marking the Japanese conglomerate’s first step into the global biogas market, reports Energetica India.

The investment is a major milestone for KIS Group and highlights both companies’ shared goal of expanding sustainable energy solutions and strengthening their presence in global markets.

So far, KIS Group has developed several biomethane and renewable gas projects across 11 countries. It has also signed long-term biomethane supply deals with Unilever and Shell, while continuing to work with companies such as Toyota, Godrej, Sinarmas, Banas Dairy, and Maruti Suzuki.

Through this partnership, KIS Group will use Mitsubishi Corporation’s network in more than 90 countries to speed up its international growth. Both companies will work together to develop and launch advanced biogas, BioCNG, and BioLNG solutions in global markets.

The collaboration will also help KIS Group adopt better operational systems to improve efficiency, scalability, and governance across its projects. It will make supply chains stronger through Mitsubishi’s trading and logistics network while promoting shared goals for cleaner, low-carbon energy.

With Mitsubishi’s support, KIS Group plans to expand its renewable gas business into North America, South America, and Europe over the next five years. The company aims to boost renewable gas production and contribute significantly to global clean energy efforts.

KIS Group Founder and CEO KR Raghunath said the partnership would help the company grow faster and reach new markets. “Mitsubishi’s decision to enter the biogas and biofuels market through us shows their trust in our technology and experience. Together, we will strengthen our global presence and make reliable, clean energy more accessible,” he said.

Founded in 2006 by KR Raghunath, KIS Group operates in 11 countries including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the USA, UAE, Brazil, Colombia, Qatar, and Spain. The company provides renewable gas and biofuel solutions for industries such as palm oil, sugar, dairy, paper, distilleries, and agro-processing.

KIS Group has announced plans to invest USD 1 billion in renewable gas and biofuel projects across Southeast Asia and India by 2030.
