Gevo Inc. and HAUSH Ltd., a European renewable energy company, have signed an agreement to explore the development of ethanol and ethanol-to-jet (ETJ) facilities in Europe. The move could pave the way for a full joint venture if the two companies identify the right opportunities. Potential project sites are being considered in Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Germany, reports Ethanol Producer Magazine.
Andy Shafer, chief customer, marketing and brand officer at Gevo, said the partnership was aimed at strengthening Europe’s aviation fuel supply. “Airlines in Europe need fuel that is affordable, reliable, and sustainable. By working together, Gevo and Haush can help bring the right partners and local support together to make that possible,” he said.
The companies plan to focus on ethanol sourcing and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant development, with an emphasis on producing fuel that meets EU ReFuel standards.
Gevo has been producing ethanol-to-jet SAF from different feedstocks since 2012 and holds more than 300 patents in the sector. The company also offers global support services including site evaluation, decarbonization strategies, carbon tracking, and marketing.
Haush will oversee activities in Europe, including site selection, investor outreach, applications for European Innovation Council Accelerator support, and building partnerships with fuel suppliers and blenders.
Richard Winterbourne, CEO of Haush, said the collaboration would help speed up the adoption of SAF across the continent. “Working with Gevo gives us a chance to expand clean energy options in Europe. Together, we can use our networks and local partnerships to bring more sustainable fuel to the aviation market,” he said.
