Guna Solar Private Limited, one of India’s fastest-growing solar EPC companies based in Chennai, has successfully commissioned a 994.2 kW rooftop solar power plant for Modine Thermal Systems Private Limited at its advanced manufacturing facility in SIPCOT, Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
Project Financed Through SIDBI and OPEX Model
The project was financed by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) under the OPEX model, which allows for zero upfront investment by Modine Thermal. As part of this model, Guna Solar retains ownership of the plant, executed the full EPC scope, and will also provide long-term operation and maintenance (O&M) services to ensure reliable clean energy for years to come.
A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been signed, under which Guna Solar will supply electricity to Modine at 50% of the prevailing grid tariff, offering immediate and substantial cost savings from day one.
Leadership Commentary: Driving Sustainable Growth
Rajesh Rangarajan, MD & CEO of Guna Solar, emphasized the company’s mission to deliver accessible and high-impact solar solutions:
“We believe in creating value for industries by converting unused rooftops into revenue-saving assets. Our financing models – CAPEX, Lease, Deferred CAPEX, and OPEX – make solar accessible to every company, regardless of their upfront budget.”
R Sathish, Managing Director of Modine Thermal Systems Pvt. Ltd., praised the collaboration:
“It gives us great pride to share that our Modine India factory has embraced renewable energy by installing a solar power plant at our Sriperumbudur facility. Guna Solar’s professionalism and execution enabled seamless deployment. This project not only reflects our sustainability goals but also ensures affordable, pre-determined energy costs for the long term—supporting both energy independence and carbon footprint reduction.”
Engineering Excellence and Swift Execution
The project was completed in just 100 days, showcasing Guna Solar’s capabilities in precision engineering and project management. Built with best-in-class equipment and stringent safety protocols, the installation is expected to deliver high performance and long-term reliability.
Advanced Technology & Net Metering for Maximum Efficiency
Jordi Aragones Juncosa, CTO of Guna Solar, highlighted the technical features:
“This project operates under a net metering arrangement, allowing full energy utilization and enhancing the plant’s economic viability. It also uses advanced DC optimization with module-level electronics, enabling individual panel monitoring and higher energy yields, even under shading or rooftop obstructions.”
For enhanced safety, the system includes module-level rapid shutdown capabilities, compliant with evolving global safety standards such as FM Global. This ensures quick system deactivation in case of emergencies or maintenance.
