Union Minister releases aluminium vision document to drive green manufacturing and resource security

Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, unveiled the Aluminium Vision Document today at the International Conference on Sustainable and Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices, held in Hyderabad. The event was organised by the Indian National Committee of the World Mining Congress.

In his address, Reddy emphasised that the Aluminium Vision Document underscores the government’s dedication to fostering a self-reliant and resource-secure India. He noted the aluminium sector’s critical role in supporting clean energy, electric mobility, and the development of modern infrastructure.

The document was developed through extensive consultations with key industry stakeholders, including National Aluminium Company Ltd. (NALCO), Hindalco Industries Ltd., Vedanta Ltd., Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), as well as major industry bodies like the Aluminium Association of India (AAI), Aluminium Secondary Manufacturers Association (ASMA), and the Metal Recycling Association of India (MRAI).

The roadmap outlined in the document sets ambitious targets, including a sixfold increase in aluminium production by 2047, ramping up bauxite production to 150 million tonnes per annum, doubling the national aluminium recycling rate, encouraging low-carbon technologies, and enhancing raw material security through targeted policy initiatives and institutional support.

Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, the Aluminium Vision Document lays the groundwork for building a globally competitive and environmentally sustainable aluminium industry.
