Petrobras has welcomed the Brazilian government’s decision to raise the biofuel content in gasoline and diesel, calling it a positive step toward reducing fuel imports and supporting domestic energy goals, reports Tradingview.
William Franca, head of industrial processes at the state-run oil company, said on Wednesday that the move aligns well with Petrobras’ own biofuel and ethanol strategies.
“The new mandates are aligned with Petrobras’ biofuel and ethanol initiatives and represent excellent news for the Brazilian consumer,” Franca told Reuters in an interview.
Earlier in the day, Brazil’s National Energy Policy Council approved increasing the ethanol blend in gasoline from 27% to 30% and the biodiesel content in diesel from 14% to 15%, with the changes set to take effect on August 1.
Franca noted that the higher blending levels could help reduce Brazil’s dependence on imported gasoline, while also reinforcing the country’s commitment to cleaner, domestically produced energy sources.
