Suzuki commences operation of Biogas Plant at Manesar plant in India

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL), the Indian subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, has established a pilot plant for biogas generation and purification at its Manesar Plant in Haryana, India. Operational since June 2024, this facility produces biogas from Napier grass, a perennial grass cultivated on-site at the Manesar factory, as well as food waste from the plant’s canteen. The purified biogas will be used for cooking in the canteen and as part of the production process, while the residue will serve as organic fertilizer for internal horticulture.

The pilot plant is projected to generate 0.2 tonnes of biogas daily, leading to an annual reduction of approximately 190 tonnes of CO2 emissions. MSIL has been actively promoting renewable energy adoption across India, including the installation of solar panels at each of its plants and the utilization of green electricity. Maruti Suzuki plans to invest a total of 4.5 billion rupees (approximately 7.9 billion yen) in renewable energy initiatives over three years starting from FY2024.

Suzuki remains committed to achieving a carbon-neutral society by minimizing its environmental footprint through sustainable energy initiatives.
