Kolkata: A proposal led by Jadavpur University (JU) in collaboration with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL) has been selected by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for establishing a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for research and development in green hydrogen, PTI reported.
The proposal is among four selected by MNRE following a selection process for setting up Centres of Excellence focused on green hydrogen, according to a university spokesperson.
The proposed CoE at Jadavpur University will focus on research and development in green hydrogen and support the objectives of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to establish India as a global hub for the production, use and export of green hydrogen while reducing dependence on imported energy.
The Centre is scheduled to be inaugurated on September 30 at Technology Bhavan on the Jadavpur University campus. The DVC chairman and JU vice-chancellor are expected to attend the inauguration.
The selection comes as the government, academic institutions and industry partners increase efforts to develop domestic technologies and capabilities for the emerging green hydrogen sector.
