Mizoram Governor invites investors to invest in bamboo based ethanol industry

Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati attended the Northeast Trade and Investment Roadshow in Hyderabad on November 13, hosted by the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (DONER) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) at the Park Hyatt, reported Chinimandi.

As per the media report, in his speech, Dr. Kambhampati encouraged investors, especially those involved in drone technology and training, to partner with the Mizoram government to promote drone applications in agriculture and other critical sectors. He also urged IT companies and skill development organizations to create opportunities for the state’s tech-savvy youth.

Emphasizing the region’s rich natural resources and untapped potential, the Governor invited business leaders to explore investment opportunities in the Northeast, particularly in sectors leveraging advanced technologies. Notably, he highlighted the vast bamboo reserves in the region and encouraged investors to consider the potential of a bamboo-based ethanol industry.

Dr. Kambhampati also highlighted the central government’s ongoing efforts to develop Northeast India, pointing out the progress being made across various sectors. He emphasized that the region is steadily gaining prominence and stability.

India’s Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL), a subsidiary of Oil India, is already working on producing ethanol from bamboo at its biorefinery in Assam. Additionally, Engineers India Limited is preparing a Pre-Feasibility Report for a bamboo-based 2G ethanol biorefinery in Meghalaya.

As part of the country’s ethanol blending program, the government is also exploring different feedstocks for ethanol production to boost sustainable energy solutions.
