HYDGEN and Malati Fine Chemicals partner to pilot green hydrogen production in sugar industry

HYDGEN, a company that develops hydrogen-making machines, has signed an agreement with Malati Fine Chemicals (MFC), a chemical solutions company based in Pune, to test the use of small hydrogen systems in factories. Their first focus will be on the sugar industry.

The goal of this partnership is to show that hydrogen can be made directly at sugar mills using power from bagasse—a by-product of sugarcane. This power will be used to run the machines that produce hydrogen. The hydrogen will then be turned into methanol by using carbon dioxide released during alcohol production at distilleries. This process creates a clean, efficient way to make fuel and chemicals while reusing waste gases.

Dr. M. Krishna Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of HYDGEN, said this partnership is an important step in bringing hydrogen solutions to industries that need simple and location-specific setups. He said he believes MFC’s experience in working with chemicals and factories will help make the plan successful and practical.

HYDGEN will provide the machines and technical help, while MFC will set up the testing sites and handle local rules and operations. Both companies will work together to take the project to the next stage, apply for government support, and look at how this method can be used in other areas.

Dr. Mohan Dongare from Malati Fine Chemicals said the company is happy to work with HYDGEN to find new ways of producing clean energy. He said hydrogen and methanol made this way could be useful not just in the sugar industry but in other types of factories too.

This partnership is part of HYDGEN’s larger goal to make clean hydrogen production affordable and available for industries across India and Southeast Asia. The project could serve as a model for future work in food processing, farm-related chemicals, and small energy systems.
