BPCL launches India’s first Biofuel Blend Bunker

In a major initiative, public sector oil marketing company Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) said on Friday it has created a biofuel blend High Flash High-Speed Diesel (HFHSD) bunker at Mumbai Port, reports Business Standard.

This facility shall be the first-ever by an Oil Marketing Company in India offering shipping companies an environmentally cleaner and biodegradable alternative to conventional fuels, said BPCL.

It also underlines BPCL’s commitment to environment sustainability while strengthening its leadership in the Indian bunkering market. It has also been in sync with the global efforts towards decarbonization of the shipping industry and hence is one such green initiative by the company.

“Our Project Aspire on green energy is leading us to a cleaner future. This launch of a biofuel blend bunker was an important step in that direction and will place BPCL as a global leader in bunkering,” said Sukhmal Jain, Director  of BPCL.

He further emphasized that BPCL’s foray into biofuel blends is only part of the larger strategy toward diversification of its portfolio of green bunker fuels, which include LNG, hydrogen, and methanol—ensuring a lead role for the company in this changing energy landscape.
