The Bihar Transport Department has decided to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along national and state highways at dhabas, hotels, motels and petrol pumps to strengthen charging infrastructure in the state.
Transport Secretary Raj Kumar chaired a meeting on Friday with representatives from automobile companies, petroleum firms and original equipment manufacturers to discuss technical standards, operations and required facilities for the project, The Economic Times reported.
He said developing a strong charging network is a priority for the government to ensure easy and reliable access for EV users. He also noted that the Centre is expected to provide around 400 electric buses to the state in the near future.
According to officials, the charging infrastructure will be put in place before the buses are introduced for public use.
The department is also planning to launch a digital platform that will display the locations of all EV charging stations through Google Maps, making it easier for users to locate facilities.
Officials have asked companies to share details of existing and proposed charging stations to support coordinated expansion of the network.
Raj Kumar said the charging stations will be developed in coordination with motor vehicle authorities and oil companies.
