Indonesia: Government ensuring smooth implementation of b40 biodiesel program

Jakarta: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is working closely with all stakeholders, including the Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP), to ensure the successful implementation and supervision of the mandatory B40 biodiesel program, reports Antara, an Indonesian news agency.

Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation, Eniya Listiani Dewi, emphasized the importance of coordination to ensure that the program runs as planned and delivers maximum benefits to the public. She stated that continuous monitoring and supervision would be carried out to meet distribution targets.

Dewi expressed confidence that the B40 program would help reduce Indonesia’s dependence on imported fuel. She described it as a crucial step in the government’s commitment to accelerating the transition to cleaner energy, cutting down fuel imports, and achieving sustainable energy goals.

Since its launch on January 1, 2025, the B40 program has made significant progress. By February 18, 2025, domestic distribution had reached 1.47 million kiloliters, accounting for 9.4 per cent of the total national allocation of 15.616 million kiloliters. Of this, 767,283 kiloliters were distributed under the Public Service Obligation (PSO) scheme, making up 10.6 per cent of its total allocation, while 706,481 kiloliters came from non-PSO distribution, representing 8.8 per cent of its allocated volume.

Currently, 79 out of 88 fuel terminals are distributing B40. One terminal is undergoing facility upgrades, and eight others are in the preparation stage. To support a smooth transition, the government is allowing B35 distribution at locations still adjusting their facilities until February 28, 2025.
