SkiesFifty and Frontline BioEnergy join forces to transform the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel from waste

SkiesFifty and Frontline BioEnergy are excited to announce a pioneering partnership aimed at advancing the commercialization of waste-to-energy technology for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The two companies will jointly establish a new venture, which they will co-own and invest in, to lead this transformative initiative.

This collaboration combines SkiesFifty’s investment expertise and focus on sustainable aviation with Frontline’s patented gasification technology, which converts biomass and waste into clean, renewable fuels on an industrial scale. The initiative is designed to meet the global demand for clean fuels by creating a robust production pipeline for SAF and green methanol.

Kurt Stache, Partner at SkiesFifty and head of their U.S. business, commented, “This joint venture reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainable aviation by investing in innovative solutions. Alongside Frontline, we are paving the way for renewable fuels that will help decarbonize the aviation sector and, additionally, the maritime industry.”

The new venture will focus on scaling SAF and green methanol production at key locations across the United States, with the potential for global expansion. This initiative will help reduce aviation’s carbon footprint while addressing the growing demand for sustainable travel. The venture will also utilize Frontline’s cutting-edge gasification technology for its own projects and offer licensing opportunities to others, addressing a key gap in many current waste-to-energy solutions.

Jerod Smeenk, CEO of Frontline BioEnergy, shared, “Our proprietary technology produces clean, tar-free, and particulate-free synthesis gas, which holds immense potential for SAF production. We’ve been searching for the right partner to unlock this market, and SkiesFifty will enable us to enter SAF production and take it to a global scale. By transforming waste into clean energy, we are opening up new possibilities for renewable fuel production and contributing to a more sustainable future.”

Both SkiesFifty and Frontline BioEnergy are confident that this partnership will be a driving force in the clean fuel sector. With plans to deploy Frontline’s technology over the next decade, the new venture is well-positioned to provide scalable solutions that make meaningful progress towards environmental sustainability and economic growth, both in the U.S. and globally.
