BCL Industries Limited (BCL) celebrated its 50th year of establishment on February 3, 2025. As one of India’s largest producers of grain-based ethanol, BCL plays a vital role in reducing the country’s dependency on fuel imports, contributing to the economy.
In a message to the company’s shareholders and employees, Rajinder Mittal, Managing Director of BCL, said, “The journey of BCL has been marked by numerous milestones, and reaching this significant stage is a testament not just to our longevity but also to our ability to adapt and excel through changing times. While much has evolved over the last 50 years, including the way we do business, BCL has transformed significantly from its original form. And this transformation continues as we embark on re-engineering efforts to evolve BCL from a local Punjabi company into a leading ethanol manufacturer in India, ensuring we stay at the forefront of production excellence in the distillery industry.”
“Over the last five decades, BCL has grown into a respected green energy company, leveraging its strong reputation in the ethanol manufacturing sector to serve an expanding customer base across various segments of the distillery industry. Though technology has revolutionized how business is done, we remain committed to building long-term partnerships by engaging directly with our customers and their operations,” he added.
Highlighting the company’s progress in the ethanol sector, Mittal mentioned, “In our 50th year, BCL is on the verge of a major leap with plans to increase the distillery capacity at our Bathinda plant from 400 KLPD to 550 KLPD. We are also making strong progress in setting up a 250 KLPD grain-based ethanol plant at our newly acquired location in Haryana. These developments will raise BCL’s total distillery capacity from the current 700 KLPD to 1,100 KLPD, further solidifying our position as a leader in grain-based ethanol production in India.”
The company also operates a distillery with a capacity of 300 KLPD in Kharagpur, West Bengal.
To further its commitment to green energy, BCL is rapidly advancing the construction of a 75 KLPD Bio-Diesel plant at the Bathinda distillery, and the Kharagpur plant has also received approval to establish a 75 KLPD Bio-Diesel plant.
Founded in 1976 by the late Shri Dwarka Dass Mittal as a small edible oil plant, BCL grew into a household name in northern India with its diverse range of edible oils and vanaspati ghee. The company ventured into the real estate sector in 2005, developing some of Bathinda’s finest projects, which remain benchmarks in the city. In 2010, BCL entered the distillery business, and by 2011, it established its first grain-based ENA manufacturing unit. Since then, BCL has experienced consistent growth in the ENA and ethanol production sectors.
