The government is committed to collaborating with the industry to overcome challenges that may impede the achievement of the 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030, said Pralhad Joshi, the Minister of New and Renewable Energy, on Tuesday.
In his keynote address at the opening of the 5th CII International Energy Conference and Exhibition, Joshi reassured the industry that he would work towards addressing key issues facing the renewable energy (RE) sector, such as transmission, through regular discussions. “Whatever needs to be done, we will work it out,” he stated.
India has added 15 GW of renewable energy capacity between April and November 2024, almost doubling the 7.54 GW added during the same period last year. Notably, 2.3 GW was added in November alone, reflecting a 14% year-on-year growth. This brings India’s total installed renewable energy capacity to 214 GW.

Joshi further emphasized that India is on track to meet its Paris Accord commitments, having already achieved a 40% reduction in carbon emissions from 2005 levels. The country is well on its way to meeting the 2030 target of a 45% reduction, while also addressing the growing energy demands of a rapidly developing nation.
Highlighting the success of the PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojna, Joshi announced that the scheme had surpassed 6.3 lakh installations within just five months of its launch. However, he also pointed out the need for increased engagement from all stakeholders, particularly the industry, and stressed the crucial role of states in this effort.
“PM Surya Ghar Yojna has achieved 6.3 lakh installations within five months of its inception. There is a need for greater engagement from stakeholders, especially the industry, with states playing a key role,” Joshi noted.
The two-day conference and exhibition were organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
