Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom), the national coordinator of Oman’s green hydrogen strategy, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with German technology company ThyssenKrupp Nucera. The collaboration aims to support the growth of the green hydrogen sector in Oman and foster future cooperation between the two entities.
The MoU outlines plans for Hydrom and Thyssenkrupp Nucera to explore opportunities for localizing assembly and service hubs for water electrolyser production. The partnership will focus on identifying prospects for local development and advancing the green hydrogen industry in Oman.
The signing ceremony took place during Hydrom’s inaugural Green Hydrogen Investor Day in Muscat, with Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, H E Salim Nasser al Aufi, in attendance. “We are working to coordinate all green hydrogen activities in Oman, including the development of a sector-wide master plan,” said Dr Werner Ponikwar, CEO of thyssenkrupp nucera. “Thyssenkrupp Nucera is committed to supporting this effort with our extensive expertise in electrolysis technology. Our experience and innovative solutions in this field position us to play a key role in building a strong green hydrogen sector in Oman.”
Eng Abdulaziz Said al Shidhani, Managing Director of Hydrom, highlighted the importance of green hydrogen for Oman’s economic future. “Green hydrogen has the potential to become a vital part of Oman’s clean economy, promoting sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. By building a competitive and sustainable green hydrogen ecosystem, we aim to establish Oman as a global leader in this field. Our collaboration with ThyssenKrupp nucera is a significant step toward realizing this vision,” he stated.
Thyssenkrupp Nucera is known for its world-leading technologies in high-efficiency electrolysis plants. The company brings extensive expertise in the engineering, procurement, and construction of electrochemical plants, strengthening its role as a key player in the development of Oman’s green hydrogen industry.
