Odisha: Tripartite agreement signed for biogas plant

A tripartite agreement was signed on Tuesday between Tecnimont Private Limited (TCMPL), the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), and Paradip Municipality to establish a biogas plant that will convert organic waste into renewable energy.

The biogas plant, with an estimated cost of Rs 48 lakh, is part of MAIRE’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in India.

Utilizing anaerobic digestion technology, the plant will process food and vegetable waste from community sources to generate biogas. This renewable energy will be used to power community kitchens and other local facilities.

The project aims to promote sustainability and create employment opportunities for the local community.

Abhishek Panda, Executive Officer of Paradip Municipality, noted that this will be the first pilot project of its kind in the state. “TCMPL will provide CSR funding for the development of the plant in Paradip, while NITK will offer technical expertise for its implementation. The Paradip Municipality will supply the land and necessary infrastructure,” he said. The foundation stone for the project is expected to be laid in January.

The signing ceremony was attended by Basant Kumar Biswal, Chairman of Paradip Municipality, Vasudeva Madhav, Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and CSR project coordinator at Maire Tecnimont Center for Research in Waste Recycling and Circular Economy, Akash AR, post-doctoral fellow at the Maire Tecnimont Center, and Brijesh Shah, Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Tecnimont Private Limited.
