Wrote many letters to Punjab CM On CBG plants, but nothing happens on ground:  Hardeep Singh Puri

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri emphasized on Tuesday that Punjab should attract new investments for compressed biogas (CBG) and ethanol plants. He mentioned that he has reached out to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann multiple times, but progress has been minimal.

Speaking to reporters at the Rozgar Mela, Puri urged support for entrepreneurs looking to establish CBG plants in Punjab. “It pains me to see that while CBG plants are flourishing across the country, those in Punjab are struggling to operate. If we can successfully run a CBG plant, it will greatly benefit farmers, and the same goes for ethanol plants, which utilize biomass.”

“I wrote many letters to the (Punjab) CM in this regard, and I always got a response that they are doing it, but nothing happens on the ground,” he claimed.

On protests in some villages against setting up of CBG plants, Puri said in Punjab, running plants are being shut down. “It is a very sad situation,” he noted.

He also noted, “All other states are looking to expand clean energy initiatives. And there are contrived and manipulated protests where these (plants) are in Punjab.”
